Antiwar Activists Targeted In Raid Wonder Where Investigation Is Going

CHICAGO (CBS) — Two years ago Monday, federal agents in Chicago, Michigan and Minnesota raided the homes of 23 antiwar activists.

Now, those who were targeted in the Sept. 24, 2010, raids say they simply want to know where the investigations are but are getting few answers.

Attorney Michael Deutsch said federal agents seized phone books, Rolodexes, personal photos and a lot of books from clients such as Hatem Abudayyeh and Joe Iosbaker — many of which had nothing to do with the war of other hot-button issues. Much of it is still in the detectives’ hands.

Deutsch said he would like his clients’ belongings returned — along with a statement that no charges will be brought.

The U.S. attorney’s office generally does not respond to requests for information on investigations it deems ongoing in which no charges have been brought.

Deutsch and Abudayyeh said they believe the goal of the raids was to intimidate antiwar activists into silence. Abudayyeh said he feels pressure a lot, but said he has not let it stop him from working with the Arab American Action Network and other Palestinian groups.
